Everyday, dozens of our friends log on to their computers and surf on over to the Governors website and look to his press announcements. Myself and others who run this site also make this part of our daily routine in hopes of seeing the name of Bob Staton and one other hunting and shooting friendly individual appointed to the MDC Commission.
We know the time is drawing near and all we can do is wait for Gov. Blunt to hopefully make a good decision for Missouri hunters, anglers and shooters.
However, the wait gives us much time to wonder when the department leadership will step forward and answer questions about things like this new lead shot ban that really is just a hunting ban in disguise? When will they answer questions about ignored polls that clearly indicate that Missouri hunters didn't want futher regulations on lead shot? When will John Hoskins and John Smith answer questions about rumors of implementing this ban state wide for all public land?
And then there are questions of the hand fishing season. Why when almost every connecting state has a hand fishing season, does the Missouri Department of Conservation feel that Missouri should be left on the sidelines?
What about questions concerning Lorna Domke's part in the decision to end all future Hunter Education Conferences that the department has been involved in year after year? Why hasn't a public statement been issued that explains why they feel this money is being wasted and what they think that money will better be spent on?
What about the answers to questions concerning Lorna's MDC invitation to democratic fundraiser Martin Hamburger who has raised millions of dollars for anti-gun politicians who have A-plus ratings from PETA and the Brady Campaign, to speak at an MDC employee function?
How about throwing us a bone on why the Missouri Department of Conservation had no idea that the NRA was coming to town until a Missouri Shooting Sports organization brought it to their attention by asking them why they didn't have a booth spot reserved? Why did no one in MDC leadership not have a membership to the NRA? Denise Brown has publically stated that hunters and sportmen are the lifeblood of the MDC. If that is the case, then why were they not aware of the largest hunting and shooting rights organization in the country that was coming to Missouri, expecting to bring in 60,000+ gun owners and plugging $30,000,000 into our state economy?
That fact is that the Missouri Department of Conservation is starting to ignore the wishes and concerns of hunters and gun owners these days.
They have launched a new website called the "Next Generation of Conservation" (link) and no where on the website does it mention hunter education. Not even on the one page where hunting is discussed does the word education appear. Hunting, shooting and fishing is not mentioned anywhere on the "Introduction" page, the "What We Believe" page or the "Note From The Director" page.
It's faily obvious to those of us paying attention that hunters, shooters and anglers in general have been and are being told to step aside to allow the politically correct crowd to portray a new and softer side of the Missouri Department of Conservation. That softer side will not do any favors for hunters and shooters in the future if something is not done.
Please take the time to call the governor. Even if you have called or written before, do so again. The time right now is critical and we must make a change at the MDC. Please take the time to read some of the material on this website on the "Articles" page and forward them to your friends and urge them to get involved too.
The hunters, shooters, anglers and trappers need to wake up in Missouri. It won't happen unless you step in and help.
