Dave Erickson has been appointed as the new Assistant Director of the
MDC. The news release can be found at:
http://www.mdc.mo.gov/news/out
This above link spells out the wrong direction the MDC has taken, and how
Erickson will be helping it gain speed. The last paragraph begins
with this disturbing sentence - "Erickson said he is "unabashed and
unapologetic" about both his personal passion for hunting and fishing
and his professional commitment to other types of wildlife-related
recreation."
That's funny considering the fact he was caught in a direct lie in the recent August issue of the NRA's
American Hunter magazine defending the MDC's decision to ban lead shot in parts of
Missouri along with their attempt to take the regulation statewide. He stated that
studies show doves and upland birds will ingest lead shot. That is a lie and studies completed by the MDC
prove otherwise. But we'll have more on that in next weeks article.
Now, who would expect him to be abashed or apologetic? Could it be
the anti-hunting, bird-watching audience the MDC is now catering to?
The story praises the "partnerships" the MDC has developed with
organizations like Audubon, and admits these groups had never
contributed to conservation on the ground. But, it fails to mention
that Audubon has never contributed anything to the MDC. It seems
these partnerships work in one direction only – the MDC gives them
our money, and they build their own nature centers and charge admission.
Let’s see what the latest MDC/Audubon partnerships have given us:
$940,000 of our tax money to Audubon Missouri to build the Audubon
Ark, a riverboat and nature center on the Mississippi to allow the
citizens of St. Louis to "re-connect to their river heritage."
Expected to open in 2008.
$500,000 of our tax money to Audubon Missouri to build the Wildcat
Glades Conservation & Audubon Center in Joplin. Plus another $2
million to the City of Joplin. Opened in September 2007. The
department’s offices are located on the grounds. Who owns the grounds?
If you think Audubon is an innocent bird watching club, you should
take a look at their Advocacy Campaigns:
http://audubonaction.org/audubon/home.html
Audubon urges their members to support radical Democrat-only sponsored
bills such as:
HR 1225: Focus on Family Health Worldwide Act of 2007 - Expands US
Foreign Assistance to include family planning, basically using our
tax dollars to pay for birth control pills, contraceptives and sex
education in foreign countries.
HR 1590: Safe Climate Act of 2007 (the Global Warming Tax Bill) -
Would allow government intrusion into every part of our lives,
setting limits and collecting penalty taxes on anything and
everything that emits greenhouse gases. This would bankrupt the
country.
HR 3036: The No Child Left Inside Act of 2007 - Establishes the
Office of Environmental Education, throwing more money at our public
schools for another federal program that the schools must abide by or
loose other funding.
HR 39: Udall-Eisenhower Arctic Wilderness Act - Grants the Arctic
coastal plain permanent wilderness protection that would keep it off-
limits to oil and gas drilling, because they don’t want us to become
energy self-sufficient that way.
This one is really sick:
HR 2421: Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007 - Amends the Federal
Water Pollution Control Act to replace the term "navigable waters,"
with the term "waters of the United States," defined to mean all
waters (and they mean all waters, including your duck lake and
fishing pond) subject to the legislative power of Congress under the
Constitution.
So, the bottom line is, the MDC is giving our tax and permit money to
a private, radical, socialist organization. And they seem to be
proud of that fact.
When will our state representatives take a stand and demand a change at our MDC and a return to responsible leadership
that refuses to play footsies with organizations that work against hunting, fishing and trapping?
